Anyway, I'm pretty sure we've all been here at some point in our lives, pulling an all-nighter to study for some test. *coughexceptmeiswearcough*

Anna understands how it feels, don't worry. Medical school is hard.

Still, it's something she's wanted to try for over a hundred years, ever since Johns Hopkins University opened in Baltimore and gained the reputation of the best medical school in the nation. Alas, the school refused to admit women at first. Then, a group of socially-conscious society ladies bribed the president for hundreds of thousands of dollars to allow women to study there. The school accepted the money and subsequently the floodgates opened up for thousands of female students. Oh wait, just kidding. They let in a grand total of four women before spending all the money and closing their doors to women once again. Even if women did get into medical school, they were often considered too weak for the tedious work required and given an inferior quality of education.

Sadly enough, that was something that Anna was used to. During her years as a war nurse, there were lots of disparaging whispers behind her back. "It's too indecent for a girl to be a nurse, no matter who she is," they said. "It's entirely improper. She can't be trusted for anything else, so why should we trust her for this?" Even after she proved herself time after time, people just wouldn't stop talking.

That's the kind of thing you don't forget quickly. As Anna often does, she ended up taking it to heart more than she should have. That's why it took her awhile to start on this journey to achieve her personal dreams. She's not perfect, but she does have very unique experiences that help her along the way. It's a very emotional thing for her. She feels as though it's her duty to learn as much as she can so that people today will never have to know what it's like to lose all their children to disease, have both legs amputated without anesthesia, die of infections treatable with antibiotics, suffer through smallpox or cholera, or die in childbirth.

But yeah, enough with all that.
