The States- Washington, DC

Calling this a part of my state series is a misnomer, as Washington, DC isn't a state.

But don't remind him of that fact. He'll get pissed off and launch into a 3 -hour-long rant about the multitude of reasons why he *should* be.

For now, he's Constitutionally forbidden from statehood and no one is very willing to bend over backward to change the Constitution just for him, so his biggest dream seems quite out of reach.

I actually designed him a few months ago, when I first came to live in DC. What I tried to do with his character was strike a balance between DC's political role and its own unique culture. I think that a lot of people only see DC as a place inhabited solely by evil politicians, equally evil lobbyists, and thousands of bureaucrats. To them, DC is the Mall, a city where there are no ordinary buildings or houses, only monuments, memorials, museums, and government offices. Few people see Washington, DC for the city it is beyond the shiny touristy stuff.

His human age is 21, and not 19 like the other states, because I designed the other states with Hetalia ages in mind. Now that I'm breaking away from that, I have a different aging system in mind. Eventually I'll update the other profiles to reflect this change.

Some facts about DC:
-He's biracial, half black and half white. Not because of Obama; but because his demographic distribution is pretty much exactly that. He has blue eyes like his sister Maryland.

-He's very short for a guy; only about 5'3. And, much to his chagrin, he has a rather high-pitched voice to match. This, along with his lack of statehood, makes him very insecure. He tries to make up for it by overcompensating and coming off as arrogant.

-He can't seem to stay in the same job for more then three or four years. After two years, he starts getting restless and wants to move on. He's worked at hundreds of different jobs over the years, both in and out of government. This is not because he is indecisive or lazy; it is simply what people do in DC. (Don't let the revolving door hit you on the way out...)

-The states tend to blame him for everything, and they don't realize that he gets screwed over by the government as much as anyone, if not more so. (You can read all about DC's plight here: [link])

-Washington, DC is one of the most Democratic cities in the nation.

-Washington, DC is often called "the Hollywood for ugly people," and it's very often true. Thousands of people come to DC every year hoping to make it big in politics, but few ever do.
